You’ve likely seen this picture when the media talks about us. It fits the narrative. It looks like a violent hate gang is roaming the streets looking for innocent victims to terrorize. The gesture appears to be some kind of white power fist. Once again, they got it backwards.
This was taken in Berkeley after Ann Coulter had been prevented from delivering a speech. Gavin flew down there and read her speech aloud on a makeshift sound system fans of hers had set up. Protestors screamed and yelled because, um, they didn’t want to hear Ann’s speech? We don’t really get it.
Afterwards, we wanted to go to a bar but the mob kept screaming so Proud Boys surrounded Gavin and escorted him for a few blocks until the hysteria died down. The gesture he’s making is a joke. He is literally saying “Uhuru” which comes from a viral video we all love wherein a giddy gay man convinces a bunch of corny college students to give him money.
So, this sinister image that proves you need to hide your kids and hide your wife is actually a guy coming back from a banned woman’s speech while making a viral video joke. Nice spooky gang, media.

UPDATE: The group who arranged for Coulter to talk there, YAF (Young Americans for Freedom) sued Berkeley for pulling the permit and they won! Isn’t it amazing how the context for a photograph is constantly evolving?
From Washington Examiner
“In the settlement, UC Berkeley agreed to the following terms set by YAF:
- Pay YAF $70,000.
- Rescind the unconstitutional “High-Profile Speaker Policy.”
- Rescind the viewpoint-discriminatory security fee policy.
- Abolish its heckler’s veto — protesters will no longer be able to shut down conservative expression.”
