When Anthony Cumia was on Joe Rogan, he said Proud Boys started as a joke but Gavin quit because things got out of hand. Now, the story goes, Proud Boys are way off on a violent tangent and Gavin shouldn’t be blamed for that. Joe has repeated this take 100 times. It’s not true.
God bless Anthony’s cotton socks but he was never involved with the Proud Boys and never really asked about us. The guy thinks we wear Perry Ellis for fucksakes. His take is understandable but that doesn’t mean there’s a grain of truth to it.
1- GAVIN McINNES QUIT UNDER LEGAL PRESSURE ON THE NYC9
The NYC9 prosecution (along with the mayor and the AG and the governor) is trying to portray the Proud Boys as a gang. That requires proving two things: We have a leader and we do illegal activities. Neither are true but by Gavin “stepping down,” at least the prosecution was unable to go with the “leader” angle. The press keeps calling our chairman Enrique Tarrio our “new leader” but the media is not the courts. Not yet, anyway. McInnes never disavowed the Proud Boys. On the contrary, he made it clear he loves this club and deeply resents being forced to quit. As he put it, “I fought the law and the law won.”
2- THINGS ARE NOT “GETTING OUT OF HAND”
Yes there is violence in the Pacific Northwest. There has always been violence there. Antifa runs that part of America by employing domestic terrorism. You can’t not fight back. As far as the rest of the country goes, nothing’s changed. The Proud Boys are no more or less violent than we’ve ever been. Yes, there was a fight in NYC on October 12th. We were ambushed and we fought back. Once. That is not indicative of a pattern.
The press can say whatever they want to say but the truth is we were all banned from social media and fired and ostracized by friends and family because the SPLC lied and said we are a Hate Group. It had nothing to do with our actions. It had to do with us making loving Trump look fun and refusing to kowtow to the liberal ethos of shame. It is verboten to be proud of the West in this day and age. It’s illegal to simply be a regular guy.
We have always been 99% about having beers together once a month and enjoying our wacky president. The only time we stray from this is to very occasionally do free security for conservative speakers. Yes, a couple of guys have attended a couple of rallies. We have way more examples of us doing charity work. Why doesn’t that ever make the news? Is our charity work “getting out of hand”?
We appreciate Joe Rogan standing up for our founder. We appreciate Tim Pool giving us a fair shake. What we don’t appreciate is the phenomenally lazy journalism that follows us like a swarm of bees. They ALWAYS get it wrong.
