Funeral for a Friend

RIP Mathew Lyons

Mathew Lyons was a Proud Boy and friend to many of us in the New York, New Jersey area. Matt was struggling with demons and tragically passed away in South Jersey earlier this week. A great guy to be around, Matt always brightened up any situation with a smile.

Chadwick Moore of Milo’s news site,, wrote on his facebook page:

Matt was one of my favorite people I’ve met in the last year. So lovely, kind, and good-natured. Used to call me just to shoot the shit and I loved it every time. He passed away on Tuesday evening at 23 years old. You are so missed, brother. You have no idea how much you brighten my life. I adored the hell out of you. RIP”

Mathew was fiercely loyal to his friends and fellow Proud Boys. Many people remember when Jovi Val had his face slashed for wearing his MAGA hat. Matt was the person who intervened and physically stopped the assailant, delivering him personally to the police. Jovi gave a heart felt reaction saying “I honestly can’t believe this is real! Just a few months ago we were sharing drinks and laughing it up at Milo’s event and now this. Draped in American flags you will be! We lost a great #patriot this week who not only believed in Making America Great Again but contributed as well any way he can,” he continued “…we will drink to you and celebrate your life brother! You are the proud western chauvinist we all aim to be! RIP Matthew “Lion Heart” Lyons!”

Many of us know Matt’s face, even if we didn’t know Matt. He is immortalized as the proud boy in the foreground of the “evil Gavin” picture used in nearly every hit piece written on Gavin McInnes and the Proud Boys.

His best friend and former housemate was Max Hare. He reminded us Matt was “…a true patriot who loved his family.”

Mathew Lyons will receive full Proud Boy funeral rights. May he find the piece in death, he couldn’t find in life.

Enrique Tarrio of the Florida Proud Boys started a gofundme campaign to help with funeral expenses for Matt’s family.

He was proud as fuck.
