President Of Turkey Consolidates Power, transports country back to the times of the Ottoman Empire

This Week in: The West is the Best….

Just this week, Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, narrowly won in a nationwide referendum to grant the office of the President the power to control both parliament and the judicial system (in other words, no checks, no balances; absolute power). President Erdoğan’s time in office has been marred by the fervent jailing of journalists, playing both sides against each other in the fight against the actual “Islamic State” in Syria and Iraq and has rounded up scores of his own people after a failed coup d’etat in 2016. President Erdoğan’s rise to power also came with the quick deterioration of its Military, which has generally served as the country’s firewall from the overreach of political power.

Now with almost unlimited power to run the country and nearly nothing to stop President Erdoğan, it’s important to note that he’s been quoted with such gems as:

“Thank God Almighty, I am a servant of the Sharia.”

and:

“These descriptions [Moderate Islam] are very ugly, it is offensive and an insult to our religion. There is no moderate or immoderate Islam. Islam is Islam and that’s it.”

And just yesterday during a rally:

“What George, Hans or Helga say does not interest us!”… What counts for us is what Ayse, Murat, Mehmet, Hatice say! What Allah says!”

So for those of you out there that are still holding out for Turkey being the one “moderate Islamic” country that puts a foot in both the Eastern and Western Worlds, you can go ahead and stop waiting. Turkey is quickly turning into both an Islamic and Authoritarian state, which best suits how the rest of the Middle East has been run for almost 1400 years now.
The ‘West is the Best’ for a reason and living in an Islamic State shit hole from the seventh century is not one of them.
